Eala takes upper hand vs Masarova as rain stops play

MANILA, Philippines — Tennis sensation Alex Eala held a 5-2 lead in the third frame over Switzerland’s bet Rebeka Masarova in their semifinal clash at the 2026 Birmingham Open when the game was suspended due to the heavy rain in England.

The 21-year-old Eala, seeded No.1 in this WTA 125 tournament, took the first set with a 6-2 score card, but Masarova bounced back and stole the second frame with a 6-4 win.

Eala found her momentum in the third and looks to march for her first finals appearance in her 2026 tournaments, but to the heavy downpour forced the postponement of their match.

The Filipina is ranked No. 37 in the world, while the Swiss is ranked No. 132.
