
AFTER a solid grass-court season capped by a historic Wimbledon run, Filipino tennis ace Alexandra “Alex” Eala will take a three-week break before returning to action at the Mubadala DC Open slated from July 27 to Aug. 2.
Mubadala is a 500-level event set in Washington, D.C., United States, where world No. 32 Eala will begin her North American hard court swing which culminates in the final major of the year — the US Open.World No. 8 Elina Svitolina, No. 13 Marta Kostyuk, No. 14 Naomi Osaka and No. 16 Iva Jovic are some of the star players confirmed in the main draw of the tourney.After Washington, Eala is expected to take her act at the National Bank Open in Toronto set from Aug. 1 to 13.Eala just finished a dream run in Wimbledon, where she became the first Filipino singles player to reach the fourth round.Eala defeated Mexican Renata Zarazua, Aussie Maya Joint and defending champ in Polish Iga Swiatek before falling to Italian Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16 last Monday.
