SHAH ALAM - Egypt’s World Cup preparations have been disrupted by logistical complications after security authorities denied the squad permission to remain in Seattle following their historic 3-1 victory over New Zealand.
The Egyptian Football Association (FA) confirmed that the security rejection forced the team to return to their training base in Spokane, Washington, ahead of their final Group G match against Iran on June 26.
"The security authorities refused the team's request to stay in the city of Seattle as planned after the New Zealand match," Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan said in an official statement.
"The team had wanted to travel directly to Seattle to protect the players from travel fatigue due to the numerous trips in preparation for the Iran match. But following the security stance, the Egypt national team delegation will return to Spokane."
The decision forces the Pharaohs to adjust their recovery and training schedules once again, with subsequent travel plans to Kansas for future fixtures still under review.
The logistical hurdle comes immediately after Egypt secured their first-ever World Cup victory, a landmark performance against New Zealand in which star forward Mohamed Salah played a decisive role.
Despite the off-pitch disruption, Egypt sit top of Group G with four points and remain in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage. A win against Iran will guarantee progression, while a draw could also be enough depending on other group results.
Iran are also managing an unusual tournament schedule. The team has been required to base themselves in Tijuana, Mexico, despite playing their matches in the United States.
The arrangement requires the Iranian squad to cross the border to Los Angeles on match days and return immediately after fixtures.
The gruelling itinerary has already drawn criticism from Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei over its negative impact on player preparation.
The combination of travel adjustments, recovery management, and logistical uncertainty adds complexity to what remains a decisive final group fixture for both nations.
