DESPITE nursing an ankle injury, Filipino gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo bagged two bronze medals at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Cairo leg in Egypt which ended on Monday night in Manila.
Yulo scored 14.000 points in floor exercise on Sunday for the first of his two bronze medals.
Russian Daniel Marinov racked up 14.233 points to win the gold medal, while his compatriot Arsenii Dukhno bagged the silver with 14.133.
The 18-year-old then claimed his second bronze on Monday night, placing third in horizontal bar apparatus with 13.733 points.
Chinese Li Hongyan ruled the apparatus with 14.400 points for the gold medal, while Cypriot Marios Georgiou netted 13.733 for the silver.
Yulo just raised his seniors medal tally to three, winning his first at the Antalya leg of the World Cup series in Turkey on March 14.
Less than four months into senior-level competition, Yulo has already made it to the final rounds five times, including the floor exercise and high bar in the Baku leg.
Yulo is expected to compete at the Osijek leg of the World Cup series in Croatia, where the tournament will run from April 9 to 12.
The World Cup series was supposed to end with a Doha leg in Qatar from April 15 to 18, but it was canceled due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Yulo’s teammates John Ivan Cruz, Justine Ace De Leon and Juancho Miguel Besana also competed at the Cairo leg but could not make the podium.
Besana gave a good account of himself by placing 10th and seizing a second reserve final slot in high bar.
