(UPDATE) KARL Eldrew Yulo booked a second final berth at the World Cup Cairo leg in Egypt, advancing this time to the horizontal bar medal round after placing third in the qualifications Sunday in Manila.
The Filipino rising gymnast scored 13.466 points on a 4.900 difficulty and 8.566 execution, as he got himself another shot at a medal after entering the floor exercise final first Saturday.
Yulo's teammate Juancho Miguel Besana placed 10th and seized a second reserve final slot with 12.233 points following Turkish Altan Dogan with 12.600.
Only the top eight advanced to the apparatus final, while the ninth and 10th placers in the qualifications are potential replacements if any qualified finalists cannot compete in the medal round due to injuries or any other reasons.
Chinese Li Hongyan topped the high bar qualification round with 14.433 points followed by Chilean Luciano Letelier.
Cypriot Marios Georgiou placed fourth with 13.366 points and Colombian Camilo Vera fifth with 13.366.
Russian Daniel Marinov finished sixth with 13.000 points, as Kazakh Ilyas Azizov seventh with 12.800.
Greek Nikolaos Iliopoulos claimed the eighth and last final spot with 12.666 points.
Yulo has now booked five final berth in total in the seniors level and won a breakthrough floor exercise gold at the Antalaya leg of the World Cup series on March 14.
The 18-year-old looks to add to that as he competes first in the floor exercise final likely on Sunday night.
Yulo returns to action on Monday as he competes in the horizontal bar medal round.
The younger brother of two-time Olympic champ Carlos also competed in vault and parallel bars but did not make the cut.
