The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar Bansal sentenced a man to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life in the murder case of Deepak Kumar, who was shot dead in 2020.
The court held Harneep Kumar, alias Neepu, a resident of Khanpur Brahmana, guilty and also slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 on him.
ADA Ashish Sharma said on July 19, 2020, Deepak was shot dead at Khanpur Brahmana village. An FIR was registered on the complaint of Ramesh Kumar, who was the cousin of the deceased. Ramesh Kumar in his complaint had stated that he was cutting grass in the fields while Deepak was also working in his adjoining field. After some time, Deepak left the fields with fodder on his head and a little later he heard the noise of a gunshot. Deepak had suffered a bullet injury in his chest. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police had arrested six persons. The pistol was recovered along with a live cartridge and an empty shell by the police. During the trial, the accused Amit Kumar had died and proceedings against him were dropped. During investigation, it came to light that in February, the accused persons indulged in a fight with Deepak, and that altercation was settled. After some time, Deepak had beaten up Harneep, following which the latter raised the issue with his friends. The court’s order reads, “It was projected that the accused hatched a conspiracy to kill Deepak. However, the ultimate act of firing was done by Harneep, who was accompanied by Atul on a two-wheeler. Whereas Vikas and Krishan provided a tip-off regarding the location of Deepak. While Tinku and Amit were assigned the role of supplying and securing the pistol.”
District Attorney Jang Bahadur Singh informed that Harneep has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and the court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him under section 302 of IPC. Further the court sentenced him for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under section 25 of Arms Act. Both sentences will run concurrently.
