
Kota Kinabalu: The position of Datuk Ewon Benedict as Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah Chairman is being disputed following revelations that the quota for Sabah belongs to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and not Upko.
The issue was raised after United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UpKo) President Ewon was elected as the new PH Sabah Chairman on Dec 1, 2024, during PH Sabah’s general meeting held on the same day.

The meeting and election was attended by PKR Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe and Amanah Sabah Chairman Lahirul Latigu.

Read more Liew, who is PKR Sabah Political Bureau Chairman, said discussions on the matter is still on-going with party President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the bureau.
“Actually it (discussions) is on-going. That’s why last weekend we were in a special party congress in Kuala Lumpur. We had discussions with the President, our Members of Parliament and the Political Bureau,” she said when met after a PKR Sabah dinner with PKR Vice-President Nik Nazmi Nik Ahamd, on Thursday.

On the reaction of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is also the PKR President on the election result of the PH Sabah Chairman, she said the question should be directed to Mustapha.

“As party vice-president Nik Nazmi had said in his speech that our focus for 2025 is to work very hard for the imminent PRN17 next year.
“State election is coming very soon, and although there is a nine-month period for its expiring date, it could be any time. So we have to prepare and strengthen our election machinery.”
Nik Nazmi, when met after the event, refused to comment.
