(UPDATE) MANILA, Philippines — Most parts of the archipelago will experience fair weather as the effect of the northeast monsoon locally known as "amihan" continues to weaken, the state-run weather agency said on Thursday.
Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that it has not monitored any weather disturbance inside or outside the Philippine Are of Responsibility in the coming days.
Torres said the cool, dry winds brought by amihan has been affecting Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, and Aurora where cloudy skies with light rains would occur.
The same weather system will also prevail over Manila and the rest of Luzon where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains will be likely, the national weather bureau said.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, will likely be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, it added.
Pagasa said that it would soon declare the onset of the dry season, popularly known as "summer" in the Philippines following the continued weakening of the northeast monsoon.
On the heat index outlook, Cotabato City, Maguindanao is forecast to experience the "highest temperature" of the day at 40 degrees Celsius - an extreme caution category - while Metro Manila will have 30 to 31 degrees Celsius, the weather agency said.
