MANILA, Philippines—The northeast monsoon or amihan prevails in Luzon including Metro Manila and the Visayas but the cool and dry winds it brings were no longer that strong, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.
Weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said the tropical storm with international name Nuri was unlikely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Estimated to be some 1, 415 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, “Nuri” would not directly affect the weather conditions in the country but its trough or extension would bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, she said.
She said Batanes and Babuyan Islands have been experiencing overcast skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon, which is also affecting the rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Apayao, and Kalinga where cloudy skies with light rains would prevail in 24 hours.
The rest of Mindanao, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
