Fajardo praises Chiu’s potential

NINE-TIME PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo heaped praises on Terrafirma’s freshman center Geo Chiu following their first match up last Wednesday.

For obvious reasons, the 6-foot-10 Fajardo dominated the 6-foot-9 rookie after scoring 30 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and issuing four assists.

The Cebuano star center, however, believes that Chiu will eventually improve his game and dominate the pro league someday.

“The future is really bright for the kid,” Fajardo said in Filipino, moments after San Miguel demolished Chiu’s Terrafirma, 126-110, last Wednesday to seal the team’s place in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup playoffs with its 6-5 record.

“He played really well. He just needs more touches (in the future).”

Chiu, the former Ateneo center, may still be a newbie in the pro league but he posted double-double output of 12 points and 16 rebounds against Fajardo.

Chiu’s team was just simply overwhelmed by the Beermen’s depth and wealth of championship experience.

Chiu also saw his first conference in the PBA end on a sad note as the loss officially booted Terrafirma out of the tournament with a 4-7 record.
