ROS holds off Terrafirma, zooms to 7-0

MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine had to show tremendous poise in the face of Terrafirma’s hot fourth quarter run to score a 124-117 decision to stay perfect in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Dyip trailed by as many as 26 points, but managed to mount a massive rally behind their 44-point effort in the last period.  But the Elasto Painters’ big lead proved enough buffer to extend their franchise-best start to 7-0 in the tournament.

ROS torched Terrafirma with 22 triples and one four-point shot made in the game.

Jaylen Johnson led Rain or Shine with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 rebounds in a triple-double effort.

Anton Asistio also had 18, Jun Roque 15, while Adrian Nocum 13.

Import Ali Mubashar led Terrafirma with 32 points and 17 rebounds, while Jerrick Ahanmisi had 21.

The Dyip absorbed their fourth straight defeat since starting with a 3-0 record in the conference.

Meanwhile, Converge vented its ire against Titan Ultra, 103-82 to end a five-game losing skid and revive its sagging playoff hopes.

Justin Arana led the FiberXers with 19 points on a near perfect 9-of-11 shooting, while Juan Gomez De Liano added 15 and seven boards.

Calvin Abueva chipped in 14 while import Kylor Kelly had 10 and 15 boards.

The FiberXers improved to 2-5 as they snapped their five-game losing skid.

The loss dropped Titan to a 2-4 card, negating Earl Gilmore’s 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Joshua Munzon finished with 15 points and six steals.
