MANILA, Philippines — June Mar Fajardo and Don Trollano engineered San Miguel Beer’s strong third quarter surge to turn back Meralco, 103-92 to galvanize its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup playoff hopes on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Fajardo scored 14, while Trollano had eight in the Beermen’s huge 29-18 third quarter exchange, which allowed then to seize control for good after being down by as many as 17 points early in the first period.
Fajardo went on to finish with 19 points and 17 rebounds, taking charge with import Bennie Boatwright struggling on offense.
Boatwright shot just 5-of-20 to finish with 16 points, way below his usual 36-point average.
The Gilas naturalized candidate though added 11 rebounds and four assists.
Trollano also scored 16 points.
The Beermen improved to an even 5-5 record to grab seventh spot and enhance their playoff bid.
The Bolts fell to 5-4.
