MANILA, Philippines — Macau put on a big effort to outlast a Robert Upshaw-less Blackwater, 123-119 in their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup match on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Jenning Leung and Damian Chongqui combined to score 60 points even as Raymond Cao registered a double-double of 29 and 10 rebounds to lead the Black Knights to just their second win in 10 starts.
The Black Knights are already out of playoff contention but the foreign squad played with intensity as their victory knocked the Bossing officialy out of the playoff running at 2-8.
Import Tony Mitchell also finished with a double-double of 11 points and 22 rebounds.
Upshaw sat out due to reported sore calf, leaving Blackwater without its top inside operator.
“We pretty much got five to six guys who will always score in double figures. Damian had a big night, Jenning had a big night and Ray,” said Macau coach Marcus Elliott.
Minus Upshaw, who averaged 33.4 points, 11.5 rebs, 2.5 assists, big man Christian David and veteran Paul Zamar carried the fight for Blackwater, which just went for naught.
Zamar and David led the Bossing with 21 points each, while Sedrick Barefield added 18. RICHARD DY
