
A father and daughter were killed while five others were injured in a head-on collision between two cars, including a Mercedes, on the Ganga Expressway in Sambhal on Tuesday, police said.
Kaila Devi police station in-charge Radheshyam Sharma said the accident took place near Azhra village when a Volkswagen Polo allegedly entered the expressway from the wrong side and collided head-on with a Mercedes travelling from Noida to Lucknow.
He said Arvind Kumar (55), son of Phool Singh and a resident of Chandausi, and his daughter Yamini (30), who were travelling in the Polo car, died in the accident.
Three other occupants of the Polo car and two persons travelling in the Mercedes sustained injuries and were admitted to the district hospital for treatment, the officer said.
After receiving information about the accident, personnel of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and local police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the district joint hospital for treatment, he added.
The Ganga Expressway, inaugurated on April 29 is the longest expressway in the state. It connects Prayagraj and Meerut while passing through 12 districts, including Sambhal.
