Father says slain Pahang UMNO Youth treasurer Mohd Radzi Rahimi was active in politics from a young age before he died with three family members in Bentong.

TEMERLOH: Mohd Radzi Rahimi, 40, who was killed along with three family members in a tragic incident in Bentong today, had been actively involved in politics from a young age, his father said.

Rahimi Abd Samad, 63, said his late son had served for about 10 years in the Maran UMNO Youth division before being elected as the Youth chief and later appointed as the Treasurer of Pahang UMNO Youth movement.

“He was indeed very active. Many UMNO members were close to him. Even the UMNO Youth chief (Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh) came and paid his last respects,” he told reporters at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) Forensic Unit in Temerloh yesterday (August 3).

Mohd Radzi, his wife Nuriani Mohammad Jafri, 36, son Muhammad Rizz Hazim, 5, and his brother-in-law Mohammad Nizam Mohammad Jafri, 35, were killed when the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in was crushed by a fallen tree along the old Kuala Lumpur-Bentong road near Janda Baik, Bentong at about 1 pm yesterday.

His other son, Muhammad Rizz Haziq Mohd Radzi, suffered severe head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at HoSHAS.

Rahimi said at the time of the incident, his son and family were on their way back to Maran after participating in a motorcycle programme with youths from Maran in Pulau Pangkor, Perak.

“The last time I saw him was on Thursday before he left for Pangkor. Everything seemed normal. He only mentioned that he would be joining a motorcycle convoy to Pangkor with his friends,” he said.

Among UMNO leaders who visited the family were UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin, who is also the Maran UMNO division chief, and Kuantan UMNO division chief Datuk Seri Ab. Hamid Nazahar.

Post-mortem examinations on the victims were completed at 9 pm.

The remains are expected to be taken to Masjid Kampung Paya Luas here for the ritual washing and shrouding before being brought to Masjid As-Syakirin in Maran for funeral prayers and burial at the Taman Sri Chendung Muslim cemetery.
