
District boys’ team bagged the silver medal in the 13th Sub-Junior Punjab State Baseball Championship on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by the Ludhiana District Baseball Association, under the aegis of the Punjab Baseball Association at the Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School ground, Gill village.
The second day of the championship saw high-octane action as 12 teams competed for supremacy in the boys’ section. Ferozepur emerged champion after defeating Ludhiana 4-2 in a high-intensity final. Sangrur secured the third place.
Ludhiana impressed throughout the tournament with dominant performances and aggressive batting displays. The hosts stormed into the semifinals after overwhelming Barnala 9-0. Ayush, Anand and Piyush scored two runs each. In the semi-final, Ludhiana overpowered Patiala 9-5 in a thrilling encounter. Piyush, Jaskirat and Chirag starred with two runs each to guide the home side into the title clash.
In the other semifinal, Ferozepur defeated Sangrur 3-0. The summit clash lived up to everyone’s expectations as Ludhiana fought hard before Ferozepur sealed a win.
Punjab Baseball Association president Sukhdev Singh Aulakh and general secretary Harbir Singh Gill honoured the winning teams, and applauded the young players for their talent and fighting spirit.
