TAWAU: A 48-year-old foreign man was arrested on Friday for allegedly causing a disturbance and disrupting public order at a plantation workers’ housing area in Merotai Kecil here.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspect was arrested by a team from the Bombalai Police Station and Auxiliary Police at a playground shelter in the workers’ housing area.
He said the arrest was made after police received a report regarding a man allegedly going on a rampage and throwing stones towards the workers’ housing area.
“Based on information received, the suspect was believed to have repeatedly caused disturbances in the area, creating fear and concern among the workers and their family members,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Rosdi said investigations found the suspect was a foreign national who had been staying in the country without valid identification documents recognised by the authorities.
The suspect was taken to the Police Station for further investigation.
“No items related to the case were seized,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Rosdi urged members of the public to avoid activities that could threaten safety, cause fear or disrupt public order.
He also advised the public to alert the police immediately upon noticing suspicious activities or unlawful acts in their areas to enable prompt action.
