
TAWAU: A 48-year-old foreign man was detained on Friday for allegedly causing a disturbance and disrupting public order at a plantation workers’ residential area in Merotai Kecil here.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspect was detained by a team from Bombalai Police Station and Auxiliary Police at a playground hut in the residential area.
He said police acted after receiving a report that a man had allegedly gone on a rampage and thrown stones towards the workers’ residential area, causing fear and concern among workers and their families.
Rosdi said investigations found the suspect was a foreigner allegedly living in the country without valid identification documents, and he had since been taken to Tawau Police Station for further investigation.
He said no items had been seized so far and the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, while urging the public to report suspicious or unlawful activities to police promptly.
