TAWAU: A 26-year-old foreign man was arrested after police found a pistol, ammunition and nearly 1kg of suspected syabu during a raid at a lodging room along Jalan Dunlop here on Wednesday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police found a Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition concealed in a black plastic bag in the room.
He said the suspect subsequently led police to a Proton Wira parked nearby, where a sling bag containing 901.35gm of crystalline substance believed to be syabu was found under the driver’s seat.
Preliminary investigation found that the suspect allegedly admitted the drugs belonged to him and that the pistol was obtained from a man in another district and was believed intended for sale to another party in a neighbouring country, while his urine tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The suspect was remanded for 14 days, with investigations conducted under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
