SHAH ALAM – It began on a music video set. By June, it had become something more.
Agencies representing South Korean stars T.O.P, 38, and Nana, 35, have confirmed the two are in a relationship, hours after local media outlet published an exclusive report on the former BigBang member and the former After School member.
The outlet ran several photos of the pair on dates, including one of them at a convenience store. Both agencies then acknowledged the relationship.
The two first met in January while filming the music video for T.O.P's song, Studio54.
"They became close after filming Studio54 and it developed into a romantic relationship around June," said T.O.P's agency, Topspot Pictures.
Citing an acquaintance of the couple, Dispatch reported that T.O.P, whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, and Nana, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, "have a deep understanding of each other", having "walked similar paths, including their debuts, careers, rumours and the wounds they have suffered".
Nana addressed the news herself on the fan messaging platform Bubble.
"We'll continue to see each other happily and healthily," she said.
The pairing brings together two idols who each rebuilt their careers beyond the groups that made them famous.
T.O.P debuted in 2006 as a rapper with BigBang, one of K-pop's biggest boy bands.
He left the group in 2023 and found a new audience with his turn as Thanos in the second season of the hit Netflix series Squid Game.
In April, he released his studio album, Another Dimension.
Nana debuted in 2009 with After School and later performed in the group's sub-unit Orange Caramel.
She has since become one of South Korea's most in-demand actresses, with roles in the Netflix series Mask Girl and the movie Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy.
