The USA have been one of the standout teams at the World Cup so far.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team have secured their place in the last 32 already, and they could make it three wins in a row by beating Turkiye in their next game.
There have been a number of standout performers for the US so far, but perhaps the most impressive of the bunch has been Folarin Balogun.
The striker scored two goals against Paraguay to kickstart the tournament, while he grabbed an assist against Australia too.
Naturally, that has led to speculation around Balogun’s future, and according to journalist, Ben Jacobs, speaking on the Latte Firm YouTube channel, Balogun is a wanted man.
Four Premier League teams want Folarin Balogun
Jacobs shared a transfer update on Balogun amid his World Cup heroics.
According to the journalist, four Premier League teams want the striker, including Coventry City.
“There are four Premier League teams that might be ones to watch,” Jacobs said.
“One of the most interesting is actually newly promoted Coventry City because they’ve already got Haji Wright. So there would be a US men’s national team battle between Wright and Balogun.
“Another team that are looking for a forward that have made a recent inquiry is Ipswich Town. And then you’ve got historical interest from both Leeds United and Brighton. At this stage, I’m not aware that those two clubs have come back into the mix. Leeds at the moment are focused on players like Harry Wilson and Julian Brandt, which would be ambitious signings if they can pull it off.”
Fulham would be the perfect move for Folarin Balogun
At the moment, we know that Ipswich and Coventry are keen on Balogun.
However, the best move for the striker may be to join Fulham.
Fulham are based in London – where Balogun was raised, and the Cottagers have a rich history of cultivating the best American talent.
The likes of Clint Dempsey, Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream, Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra all became stars at Fulham, and Balogun could follow that trend.
Fulham do need a striker after the departure of Raul Jimenez, while a move for Ricardo Pepi fell through in January, so Balogun could be just what the doctor ordered.
