TAWAU: Tawau police have commenced training for its Light Strike Force (LSF) unit as part of early preparations for the 17th State Election.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the In-Service Training (LDP) is crucial for equipping LSF personnel to handle any eventualities during the election period.

“This training aims to expose both new and experienced members to realistic scenarios, especially in the event of riots or disturbances during the election,” he said,

Jasmin said the latest LDP session at the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) was conducted on Wednesday, involving 16 lower-rank police personnel.

He added that the training was led by instructor and section commander Sergeant Khairul Iskandar Abdullah and was carried out effectively by simulating the actual atmosphere during a state election.

“The implementation of this type of LDP is part of our efforts to strengthen police readiness in facing any potential threats, particularly those involving public order,” he said.

He added officers involved in the training were exposed to various knowledge and skills, including a refresher on introductions, command words and LSF drill procedures.

He expressed confidence that the training and knowledge shared with both new and experienced personnel will support them in their duties, especially when the actual election period begins.
