Gilas Women secure FIBA 3x3 World Cup berth

GILAS Pilipinas women defeated home team Singapore, 21-10, at The Kallang on Sunday evening to qualify for the FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup.

The Philippine team is composed of Kacey Dela Rosa, Afril Bernardino, Tantoy Ferrer, and Mikka Cacho with Anton Altamirano serving as the coach.

Emerging as the third-best team in the qualifiers with a 2-2 record, the Filipino dribblers made it to the world stage of the half-court game for the second time.

This is Gilas' first 3x3 World Cup qualification through the qualifiers, as its first appearance in 2018 was made possible because the Philippines was the host country.

Top seed Hungary (3-0) and second seed Lithuania (2-1) are the other two countries that made it to the World Cup through this qualifying tournament.

Gilas started its campaign with a 13-16 loss to Brazil but bounced back with a 21-19 win over Singapore in Pool B.

The Philippines finished as the top seed in Pool B with 34 points followed by Singapore which scored the same on Saturday.

In the crossover semifinals, Gilas fell to Pool A second seed Lithuania, 16-21.

Singapore suffered the same fate as it lost to Pool A top seed Hungary, 13-21, forging a winner-take-all match against the Philippines.

The Filipinos started and finished the battle for third place strong against the Singaporeans to punch the last World Cup ticket.

Dela Rosa led Gilas with 11 points as Bernardino and Cacho added four points apiece.

Ferrer chipped in two points in the victory.
