Globe urges developers to plan connectivity early

GLOBE Telecom Inc. is urging property developers to incorporate telecommunications infrastructure early into their building plans to ensure that new residential, commercial and mixed-use developments are ready for growing digital demands and avoid costly retrofitting later on.

The telecommunications company gathered around 150 participants, including more than 100 external property-sector partners, at its Collaboration Forum 2026 to discuss integrating connectivity into development planning and design.

Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz said early coordination among developers, architects, designers and telecommunications providers would help ensure that buildings could accommodate changing technology requirements.

“The earlier we bring those perspectives together, the better we can plan for what comes next. While the plans are still being shaped, let us sit down together and determine what needs to be built in from the start, with enough flexibility to evolve over time,” he said.

With the theme, “Design Today, Connect Tomorrow,” the forum focused on incorporating network requirements into residential, commercial and estate developments before designs are finalized or construction begins.

Globe said the forum was aimed at strengthening collaboration with property developers and other industry stakeholders to make connectivity a standard consideration in planning future developments.

Addressing connectivity requirements at later stages, it noted, could make infrastructure installation more difficult and expensive, while early planning would give developers and network providers more time to identify technical constraints and determine the facilities needed to support reliable connections.

The initiative also comes as the government reviews the National Building Code of the Philippines, which Globe views as an opportunity to recognize connectivity as an essential utility in modern developments.

The inclusion of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber-ready facilities and in-building connectivity solutions, in building standards would support reliable service from the outset and reduce the need for costly modifications, it said.

Integrating network requirements into development master plans would also give property owners greater flexibility to accommodate emerging technologies and increasing demand for digital services, Globe added.

As homes, workplaces and communities rely more heavily on connectivity, the company said early coordination between the property and telecommunications sectors could help ensure new developments have the infrastructure needed when residents and businesses begin occupying them.

Globe Telecom shares on Friday closed up P15.00, or 0.97 percent, at P1,565 each. NAZYLEN JOY MABANGLO
