MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or habagat, will continue to bring heavy rain over parts of Luzon, particularly western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, the state weather bureau said Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said downpours were expected over Zambales and Bataan, with occasional heavy rains also possible over other parts of Central and Southern Luzon.
As of 5 a.m., Pagasa had placed Zambales under an orange heavy rainfall warning, while Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac and parts of Bulacan were under a yellow warning.
Metro Manila, Cavite and Rizal were also under a yellow warning, along with parts of Batangas, Laguna and Nueva Ecija.
Badrina warned that the rains could cause flooding and landslides in affected areas.
Pagasa said it was also monitoring a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, more than 1,700 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.
Badrina said the tropical depression had a low chance of entering the PAR and could weaken into a low-pressure area.
The habagat is expected to continue affecting Luzon through the weekend, with rains likely to ease by Sunday but continuing in parts of Central and Southern Luzon.
Badrina said the habagat season usually ends in the first or second week of October.
