Kota Kinabalu: Han Loong Taekwondo Club finished third overall in the 8th Sabah Youth and State Open Taekwondo Championships held at Keningau Sports Complex over the weekend.
They captured nine gold, five silver and eight bronze medals to finish behind champions MBV Taekwondo Club and Borneo Tiger Taekwondo Club.
They continued to excel in the poomsae events with six golds, three silvers and six bronzes while the others from the kyorugi event.
Club president cum team manager Roger Chaw was happy with the performance of his athletes despite failing to achieve their 13 gold winning feats last year.
“It was very competitive this year and we are happy to at least maintain our third place overall position and well done to all of them.
“We are also very happy to make a breakthrough in the kyorugi event. The three golds were unexpected and hopefully it will motivate the athletes to train even harder for next year’s competition,” he said.
