Sabah’s junior shuttlers emerge group champs

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah shuttlers emerged as Group B champions in the Affin-100Plus Junior Elite Badminton Tournament (first leg) held at the Putrajaya Community Hallare over the weekend.

They won a total of six gold, four silver and five bronze medals in the five-day competition.

The golds were captured by Mohd Syahmi Rizq Senawing in the boys’ Under-12 singles and doubles with partner Mohd Firdaus Abdullah, Datu Anif Isaac Datu Asrah in the boys’ Under-16 singles as well as doubles with Hymns Isaiah Shim, Lim Ke Xuan in the girls’ Under-14 singles and Jola Lim Zi Yu in the girls’ Under-16 singles.

The silvers came from Mohd Airulsyam Ambri (boys’ Under-12 singles) and Mohd Nur Azhar Zunaide (boys’ Under-16 singles),

Saidatul Saadiah Muhammad (girls’ Under-16 singles), Saidatul/Jola Lim (girls’ Under-16 doubles), while the bronze medallists were Mohd Firdaus Abdullah (boys’ Under-12 singles), Kerwin Soh Jun Vui (boys’ Under-14 singles), Mohd Airulsyam Ambri/Muhd Aqalil Tarzan (boys’ Under-12 doubles), Muhammad Iqbal Yusuf/Edwin Soong Pei Xuan (boys’ Under-14 doubles) and Chua Jing Xuan/Clarylyn Ashebelle Nuli (girls’ Under-14 doubles).

Meanwhile, Sabah Badminton Association president Janih Bangud congratulated the players and also praised the coaches and officials for their support.

He called on the players to continue their hard work in preparation for the second leg scheduled to take place in Negeri Sembilan from June 7-11.
