Gurugram: What was meant to be a high-energy show of strength during Brijendra Singh’s one-km Sadbhav Yatra briefly descended into chaos on Friday evening as Rahul Gandhi’s arrival triggered a frantic rush among party workers and supporters at Gurugram’s Khandsa Chowk. The moment the Congress leader arrived around 5.30 pm, he immediately began walking, catching many in the crowd off guard. To keep up, police personnel were seen pushing supporters to clear the route, leading to jostling and minor falls. The urban district president of the Mahila Congress also reportedly fell during the commotion. The situation worsened near the rally venue where there was a small makeshift stage and limited standing space on the road. That left several senior leaders struggling to reach the venue. Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan and other veterans were seen stuck amid the swelling crowd. The chaos clearly hinted that nobody expected this yatra to be this big and many top leaders had rushed at the last moment.

Buzz over Cong MLA’s ‘mathadheesh’ remark

Jhajjar: Congress MLA Kuldeep Vats’ ‘mathadheesh’ remark has become the talk of the town with political circles as well as local residents speculating about the Congress leaders at whom the statement was aimed. Vats has remained in the spotlight ever since CM Nayab Singh Saini attended his nephew’s wedding function just a day ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in March. Adding to the buzz, Vats — on his birthday — targeted leaders from within his own party without naming anyone, alleging that certain ‘mathadheesh’ at both the state and central levels were weakening the organisation and demoralising party workers.

Ambala: Always facing questions regarding factionalism, the local unit of the Congress managed to put up a united face in Ambala City in the Municipal Corporation election. From attending door-to-door campaigns, sharing the stage and the road show on the last day of campaigning, the leaders were seen appealing in sync to the voters. A party leader said the entire leadership attended the roadshow and the response from the public was better than expected.

CM briefed about Dushyant-cop row

Hisar: During his visit to Uklana on May 7 to campaign for the BJP candidate in the MC poll, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was briefed by Hisar SP Sidhant Jain about the law and order in the district and also about the row that occurred during JJP leader Dushyant Chautala’s confrontation with Hisar policeman Pawan Kumar recently. A photo of the CM in close interaction with the SP carrying some documents went viral on social media. But there was no official statement about the brief and informal meeting. Notably, four complaints have been filed in the row -– two each from both sides. The Hisar police have set up a SIT. But no further action has been taken so far on these complaints, say sources.
