MetMalaysia confirms Pendang and Baling are latest Level 2 heatwave zones, with 15 other areas under alert as temperatures soar

PENDANG: Pendang and Baling districts in Kedah are the latest areas declared to be under a Level 2 heatwave.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the daily maximum temperature reached between 37°C and 40°C as of 4 pm.

Padang Terap in Kedah also retains its Level 2 hot weather status.

A total of 15 other areas in Peninsular Malaysia are at Level 1 alert.

This involves the whole of Perlis and Kuala Lumpur, plus several districts in Kedah.

The affected Kedah districts are Sik, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi Island, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.

Similar alerts are in place for Timur Laut and Utara districts in Penang.

Warnings also cover Hulu Perak, Selama, Kinta and Kuala Kangsar in Perak.

A heatwave warning is issued when temperatures hit 37-40°C for three consecutive days.

The alert level refers to daily maximums of 35-37°C for at least three days in a row.
