
TAWAU: Fire destroyed a 21-unit rental house, two houses and four shoplots at Kg Titingan, here, early Friday.
District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to 210 nearby houses after receiving an emergency call through NG999 at 5.03am.
He said five fire appliances, including a utility vehicle, were dispatched to the scene, about 3km from the station, led by PBK I Zougrana Konin and Senior Operations Commander PPgB Madzlan Sarman.
“The fire involved two semi-permanent houses and a 21-unit semi-permanent rental house, all of which were 100 per cent destroyed.
“Four semi-permanent shoplots were also completely destroyed,” he said.
Jemishin said firefighters deployed two hose lines with four nozzles, using water from the fire appliances and a nearby hydrant, while the Titingan Community Fire Brigade deployed a 500ft hose line with two nozzles.
“The fire was brought under control at 5.59am and firefighters prevented it from spreading to 210 nearby houses,” he said, adding the operation ended at 8.26am after ensuring there were no further hazards.
The operation involved 34 firefighters who were assisted by five Royal Malaysia Police personnel, 11 Civil Defence Force personnel and two Sabah Electricity personnel.
No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire and extent of losses are still under investigation.
