The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers have engaged in a shocking trade.

For the past few weeks, the Boston Celtics were linked to Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, they failed as Giannis joined the Miami Heat.

While the trade for the 2x NBA MVP failed, the rumor mill suggested that the Celtics remained keen on moving Jaylen Brown for some reason. Well, the franchise has succeeded in doing so.

Boston Celtics trade Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia 76ers

Brown had been a crucial part of the Celtics’ roster over the last decade or so and even played a major role in the team’s 2024 NBA Championship run.

Despite that, the Celtics recently traded Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.

Considering Brown didn’t even ask to be traded, the move has shocked the NBA community to its core. But what’s done is done.

For Brown, it’s time to look forward to his next chapter and possibly a new contract extension with the 76ers.

Jaylen Brown will soon be eligible for a massive two-year contract extension

Right now, Brown is among the two players in NBA history, who signed supermax extensions worth over $300 million. The other player is his former Celtics teammate, Jayson Tatum.

He will enter Year 3 of his massive deal, but post-July 26, 2026, he will also become eligible to sign a new extension, albeit with the 76ers.

With that, it begs the question of what the value of his new extension will be. As of now, Brown is projected to be eligible to sign a contract extension worth $142 million over two years.

Considering Brown still has three years left on his deal, the new extension would keep him locked up with the 76ers until the end of the 2030-31 NBA season.

Of course, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey still the two faces of Philly, it will be interesting to see if the organization will even offer Brown this humongous extension.
