Indonesian jailed 7 months over stolen items

Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced an Indonesian man to a total of seven months jail on two counts of attempting to dispose of a stolen item and keeping stolen properties.

Suharto Mijan, 37, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to both offences.

On the first count, Suharto was jailed three months for trying to remove a unit of drill belonging to Rranssius Yohanes at 9.45pm on Dec 18, 2023 at Manggatal Plaza.

The charge was framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries with Section 511 of the same Code.

Read more On the second count, Suharto was jailed four months for having two stolen gas cylinders, a hand blower, a small drill and a water jet machine belonging to the same complainant.

The offence was committed at 11.05pm on Dec 18 at a store in the Telipok settlement.

Suharto was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that all the items were reported missing from the complainant’s car on Dec 9, the same year.

Suharto was ordered to serve the jail sentences from the date of his arrest and to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ling Guong Zhin prosecuted while Suharto was not represented.
