Man jailed for disposing of stolen items

Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old man was jailed 10 months by the Magistrate Court on Wednesday for disposing of stolen items.

Mohammad Redzwan Syahfiqqi Abdullah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to disposing of a Huawei smartphone, an identity card belonging to Marsitah Ahmad Kfili, Bank Muamalat debit card, Bank Alliance debit card and RHB Islamic debit card at a house in Kampung Petagas, Jalan Dewan, Putatan, on Nov 11, 2023 at 11.30am.

He was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Suzie S.K. told the court that on Nov 15, at 3.20 am, the complainant came home to discover the door was open.

A police investigation revealed that Redzwan had entered through the main door by unlocking it using a key.

Duty Counsel Lim Ming Zhoong, representing Redzwan, requested leniency while Suzie applied for a deterrence sentence.

The court ordered Redzwan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man was charged with assaulting a Filipino woman and her child.

Ridzuan Roslan pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Jennifer Simbajon Reducto at 9am on Jan 1, this year, at Putatan Platinum Apartment.

He allegedly assaulted Jennifer and her child on their way home from the pharmacy by pulling her hair and hitting both her and her child on the head and the back of their bodies using a padlock.

Ridzuan was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carried a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

The court set Feb 13 for pre-trial case management and released Ridzuan on bail of RM1,000 in two sureties.
