
Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old woman was jailed three months by the Magistrate’s Court, Thursday, for harbouring a detainee.
Alina Hassan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali to harbouring Nazri Hassan from 6am to 4pm on Dec 17 at a house in Kampung Simpangan, Tuaran.
She was charged under Section 212 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of one-fourth of the longest term of imprisonment provided for the offence, or fine, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Batrisyia Mohd Khusri told the court that on Dec 16 at 12.50pm, Nazri escaped from the Kepayan Prison by climbing over a grill.

Duty counsel Carmen Khoo requested for a lenient fine saying Alina is married with three children and has to take care of her parents.
However, Batrisyia applied for a deterrent sentence, considering public interest and the viral nature of the offence.
“The punishment should serve as a lesson to both Alina and the general public,” said the DPP.
The court ordered Alina to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest.
In another case, two individuals were fined RM2,000 for disposing of two stolen car rims.
Rudy Shahril, 41, and Melda Suki, 42, admitted to committing the offence by disposing of the rims on Dec 12 at 3.50am in Kepayan.
Both were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.
According to Batrisyia, a police report was lodged on Dec 12 about the theft of two rims from a Proton Saga.
Police, led by Rudy and Melda, located the rims at a scrap shop.
Carmen, representing Rudy and Carmen, requested for a lenient fine saying the former is a first-time offender and a part-time chef, and the latter is a mother with two children and suffers from breast cancer.
Batrisyia applied for a deterrent sentence.
