Kota Kinabalu: The increasing support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government proves the people’s confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.

Datuk Hj Abdul Hakim Gulam Hassan, a supreme council member of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), said GRS, after more than three years governing the state, has achieved many significant successes in line with the aspiration of Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plans.

“There is a genuine sense of confidence among the people of Sabah towards the State government under the leadership of Hajiji and I think this is good for the people and state. Despite much negative commentary and accusations thrown at the GRS government, the people of Sabah generally acknowledge the State Government’s seriousness in looking after the people’s interests and bringing socioeconomic development to the State,” he said.

He said Hajiji’s quiet leadership style focus on action over talk, along with his close working relationship with leaders within the GRS coalition, has also contributed to the government’s effectiveness.

He said this encouraging achievement indicates investors’ confidence in the state government.

“I notice that the Chief Minister does not promote himself through eye-catching slogans to attract public attention, but people know he works tirelessly and understands the people’s aspirations,” he said.

Touching on politics, Abdul Hakim said Sabahans should appreciate Hajiji’s efforts to unite Sabah’s multi-racial population through the formation of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition, where major Sabah ethnic group are represented by member parties.

“While making effort to unite Sabah leaders, the Chief Minister, at the same time, also showed respect for all formers State leaders, irrespective of their political alignment,” Abdul Hakim said.

He said GRS cooperation among local-based parties through GRS came at the right moment for the right reason.

“Solving the political instability in Sabah through this coalition was crucial, while maintaining strong Federal ties,” he said.

“With political stability, Sabah can fully concentrate on development without being sidetracked by constant and pointless politics,” he said.

Abdul Hakim, who heads the Gagasan Rakyat Tungku division, said he is saddened that some resort to slander to tarnish leaders’ name, including the Chief Minister. “This culture of fitnah (slander), if left unchecked, can destroy our country, our livelihoods and future generations.

“As a Muslim, I want to say the Muslim community should set an example of civil discourse and build a society focused on well-being,” he said.
