Jail for threat to stab parents

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man who threatened to stab his parents with a knife, was jailed 18 months’ and fined RM3,000 or six months jail on Thursday.

Abdul Khalid Wajib, 40, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence to Wajib Kurais and Jumatiah Aminulla at 7.30am on June 6 in a house at Telipok settlement centre, Jalan Lowo Monduo, Telipok, Manggatal.

According to the prosecution, prior to the incident, Khalid was seen restless while having breakfast and started damaging the eating utensils in the kitchen.

Khalid took a knife and cursed his siblings and parents before an argument ensued between them, the court heard.

Khalid then threatened to stab their parents with the knife but later ran out of the house, said the prosecution.

The court heard that Khalid was then caught by his brother-in-law with help from neighbours and subsequently handed over to the police.

Khalid was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 32-year-old man was fined RM2,500 or three months jail for having five bottles (5,600ml) of psychotropic fluid – Mytragynine.

Md Azrie Lee Abdullah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having Mitragynine, a drug type found in Ketum leaves at 10am on July 10 at the arrival hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

Azrie had committed an offence under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or a jail term of up to four years jail or both, conviction.

Unrepresented, Azrie told the court that he worked as a tour guide in Ipoh returned to visit his family members and brought the Mitragynine for his own consumption and also for the treatment of his mother who had leg pains.
