Kota Kinabalu: A grandson of former Sabah Head of State Tun Datu Mustapha Harun was jailed 12 months and fined RM3,000 or further six months, Thursday, for stealing and selling a Rolex belonging to his mother.
Datu Anwar Datu Amirkahar, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to disposing of the luxury watch belonging to Datuk Mary E Dumpangol @ Aminah Ambrose at 2.30pm on May 29, this year at Luqman Gold Shop, Sinsuran.
The court was informed by the prosecution that the complainant lodged a police report on June 3 stating that valuables kept in her safe went missing.
Police investigations revealed that the complainant found the safe’s key at a place where it was not usually kept when she was about to put her jewellery into the safe, the court heard.
Anwar, an e-hailing driver, sold the Rolex White watch for RM9,000.
The purchasing receipt was also seized.
Anwar applied for leniency and requested a fine saying it was his first offence and that he has dependents.
He was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Anwar was ordered to serve the imprisonment sentence from the date of his arrest. Insp. Albert Basiri prosecuted.
Mustapha was the first post-independence Governor and also served as a Chief Minister. His son, Amirkahar, was a former State Minister.
