While Dr Akmal is boycotting KK Mart in Malaysia, another more significant move is taking place in Wadhington DC.
In a stunning display of moral righteousness, Muslim leaders have turned down President Biden's invitation to the White House iftar, citing their principled stance against his support for Israel's actions in Gaza.
The move comes as a shock to the political establishment, who were clearly hoping for a photo-op to showcase their inclusivity and diversity.
One can only imagine the horror and disappointment on Biden's face as he realised that his iftar guest list was shorter than his attention span during a briefing.
How dare these leaders prioritise the suffering in Gaza over the chance to break bread with the most powerful man in the world? Don't they know that political grandstanding is the true spirit of Ramadan?
But fear not, for Biden's team quickly improvised, opting for a smaller dinner attended only by his administration's staff. Because when life gives you lemons, you invite your colleagues to dinner and pretend it was your plan all along.
The irony is not lost on us that while the White House was trying to salvage its iftar plans, outside in the rain, activists were breaking their fast in Lafayette Park, showing that the true spirit of Ramadan is not about fancy dinners but about solidarity and community. Sharing dates under the sky is probably more uplifting than being at dinner hall of the White House!
And let's not forget the Democrats' fear that this boycott could open the door for Trump's return to power. Because nothing says "democratic values" like using a religious event as a political pawn.
In conclusion, while Biden may have missed out on his iftar photo-op, the rest of us got a front-row seat to the spectacle of political posturing.
So let's raise a glass of water (because, you know, fasting) to the leaders who reminded us that principles should never take a back seat to political expediency, even if it means missing out on a free dinner at the White House with an absent minded President.
Here's hoping Biden has better luck with Aidilfitri #RAYA2024!
