Julita calls for broader women empowerment efforts

SANDAKAN: Community development must include vulnerable groups, particularly women, by ensuring fair access to healthcare, welfare, protection, education and economic opportunities, said Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki.

She said the Government would strengthen cooperation among welfare and health agencies, local authorities, community organisations and local leaders to ensure assistance was delivered in a more coordinated and effective manner.

Julita said women were not merely beneficiaries of development but also community leaders, economic contributors, decision-makers and pillars of their families.

She said women’s empowerment should encompass skills, financial and digital literacy, market access, business guidance, healthcare, safety and protection, with particular attention to rural women, single mothers, low-income groups, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and caregivers.

Speaking at the Persona Wanita Carnival here Saturday, Julita said the programme should be continued and expanded to districts and communities requiring better access to services, information and support.
