Junior Altas get twice-to-beat advantage in quarterfinals

Defending champion University of Perpetual Help recorded its 10th win in 12 games with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17 victory over San Sebastian College in the NCAA Season 101 boys volleyball tournament on Monday at the Arellano University Gym in Pasay City.

Team captain Gabriel Macatuno led the way with a game-high 18 points for the Sandy Rieta-coached squad.

Cholo Bustamante and Limuel Valderama contributed double digits with 16 and 12 points, respectively as the team clinched a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Setter Donald Sison added 11 excellent sets and 7 receptions for the Junior Altas, who remain in second place in Group A behind Mapua (10-1).

In the other games in the boys division, Emilio Aguinaldo College defeated San Beda University, 22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 and Jose Rizal University outplayed La Salle Greenhills, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21. 

Letran and Arellano University, meanwhile, share the lead in Group B with identical 9-2 slates.

The top two teams in each group will have the twice-to-beat edge in the next round.
