Kota Kinabalu: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has designated its Deputy President Datuk Wetrom Bahanda as the party’s Chief Minister candidate should it form the Sabah government in the 17th State Election.

Acting President Priscella Peter announced the unanimous decision following a party leadership meeting at the KDM headquarters in Penampang on Monday.

“We are pleased to announce that the KDM leadership has unanimously agreed to nominate Wetrom as our Chief Minister candidate if the party wins the coming PRN17,” she said.

She said the proposal originated from KDM President Datuk Peter Anthony himself, with the leadership committee discussing and finalising the decision during Monday’s meeting.

“The meeting proceeded in a spirit of unity and family togetherness. I can confidently say that KDM is fully prepared for the state election,” she said.

The meeting also addressed candidate selection and constituency targeting, with the party identifying over 40 seats and potential candidates for the election.

Priscella said the KDM will announce its complete list of contested constituencies and candidates when the time is right, most likely after the State Legislative Assembly is dissolved.
