KOTA BELUD: The police here seized 10 motorcycles and issued 27 traffic summonses in a special motorcycle operation conducted by its Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Kota Belud District Police Headquarters (IPD Kota Belud) along the Pan Borneo Highway near Pantai Emas and Jalan Sangkir, near here, on Saturday.
Kota Belud Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division Chief Insp Mohd Firdaus Che Mustafa said the operation, which he led together with 10 personnel, was carried out following public complaints and intelligence indicating that the areas had become gathering spots for motorcyclists committing various traffic offences, including dangerous street gangsterism activities.
He said dozens of motorcycles and riders were inspected during the operation to ensure compliance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and other applicable traffic regulations.
“As a result of the inspections, a total of 27 summonses were issued for various traffic offences. Among the offences committed were motorcycle modifications that did not comply with approved specifications, as well as other violations of road traffic regulations,” he said here on Sunday.
Mohd Firdaus said the operation was not only aimed at detecting and taking action against traffic offenders, but also at increasing the police’s visible presence in areas identified as high-risk locations for street gangsterism and illegal racing.
