Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association marks 35 years of service to Sabah media

Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) marked its 35th anniversary with its annual Press Night at the Putera Ballroom on Monday, coinciding with National Day and Sabah Day celebrations.

KKJA Chairman Datuk Jimmy Goh thanked the association’s life honorary advisers, honorary advisers, advisers, community leaders, sponsors and members of the media fraternity for their support over the past three decades.

His speech was read by Deputy Chairperson Nancy Lai, who is also the event’s Organising Chairperson.

“Thirty-five years is by no means a short or easy journey. To have come this far after 35 years and to continue serving the media fraternity is certainly no easy achievement,” Goh said.

“It is because of your unwavering support, encouragement and companionship over the years that we have been able to take one step at a time and reach where we are today.

“These 35 years are not merely a chapter in the history of our association as they are also part of the development of journalism in Sabah.

“May our association continue to unite the strength of the media fraternity in the years ahead, move forward hand in hand, and create another remarkable 35 years together,” he said.

Among the guests present were President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) Datuk T.C. Goh, Founding President of the SME Association of Sabah Datuk Foo Ngee Kee, Kapitan Datuk Li Su Fook, Founder of Zara’s Boutique Hotel Datuk Eliza Goh, past President of the Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) Datuk Muguntan Vanar, its current President Mariah Doksil as well as veteran journalists George Kanavathi and Pung Chen Choon.
