MANILA, Philippines — The DLSU Lady Spikers moved to the cusp of a first-round sweep after denying a gutsy challenge by the Adamson Lady Falcons, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 13-25, 15-5, in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.
Angel Canino logged 19 points, 12 excellent digs, and 11 receptions for the league-leading La Salle, which recovered from an opening set loss and a fourth set collapse to dominate the fifth and go 6-0.
Shevana Laput also hit hard with 26 points while Shane Retarta added 12 receptions, 11 digs, and eight points including the last two.
The Lady Spikers will close their first round campaign against last year's finals tormentor and defending champs NU Lady Bulldogs on March 15.
Shaina Nitura dropped 21 points, 17 receptions, and 10 digs for Adamson which fell to 3-3 for fourth place.
The Lady Falcons will end their first round campaign against the UP Fighting Maroons on March 15.
