KULAI, Aug 24 — A motoring influencer was among eight local men remanded for four days to assist investigations into a case involving the closure of a section of the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (Linkedua) to stage an illegal race last Saturday.
The remand order, effective today until Thursday (Aug 27), was issued by Magistrate R. Salini after police applied for the order at the Kulai Magistrate’s Court to assist investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.
Earlier, all the individuals were brought to the court at 8.25 am after being arrested yesterday.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad was reported to have said that the group was believed to have blocked the road from KM33 at the Senai Utara Toll interchange to KM31 at the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) interchange on Linkedua to stage an illegal race.
He said they were arrested by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kulai district police headquarters (IPD) as they were believed to be directly linked to the case.
The incident also went viral on social media, with a video showing a group of individuals stopping road users to give way for them to race. — Bernama
