MANILA, Philippines — Local officials in Quezon City and CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) area have declared the suspension of face-to-face classes in all school levels in their respective turfs due to the expected bad weather conditions brought by the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’
The five city chief executives – QC Mayor Joy Belmonte, Caloocan Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan, Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian – posted in their official social media platforms Thursday’s suspension of classes.
However, in QC, Belmonte said the suspension was only for public schools including alternative learning system and child development centers wherein alternative delivery modes of learning (synchronous and asynchronous) would be implemented.
She said the suspension of classes in private school and higher education institutions depends on the decision of the school administration.
“However, for the safety of teachers and students, compliance with national and localized suspension is encouraged,” she added.
The Camanava mayors were saying in unison that the suspension of classes - both in private and public schools - was recommended by their respective Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils in anticipation of the bad weather conditions due to habagat.
While most parts in the country were affected by Tropical Storm ‘Maymay,’ Metro Manila, which has 16 cities and one municipality (Pateros), would be experiencing occasional rains due to habagat which is closely associated with the rainy or wet season.
