MANILA, Philippines – Localized thunderstorms have been prevailing over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, has weakened, affecting only the western section of Northern Luzon, weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is closely monitoring the movement of two low-pressure areas (LPAs) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Although the state-run weather agency said the LPAs were within its monitoring domain, the weather disturbances were unlikely to have direct effects on the country's weather in the coming days.
Dominguez said one of the LPAs was the former Tropical Storm Josie, which was forecast to dissipate within 24 hours, and the other one was spotted over west-northwest of extreme Northern Luzon.
It was also not expected to enter PAR, according to the Pagasa forecaster.
