As a leader from Sabah, Ewon reaffirmed his commitment to advancing entrepreneurship and economic opportunities in the State.

AdvertisementHe introduced the Ministry’s “Look East Within the Nation” policy, which prioritises additional support for Sabah and Sarawak.

“We must catch up in terms of entrepreneurship, cooperatives, education, and infrastructure that supports economic growth.

“This year, we are establishing micro, small and medium enterprise hubs in Sabah and Sarawak, similar to those long existing in the peninsula,” he said.

In addition, he highlighted new initiatives such as the “Premis Tamu Desa” project and the Sabah and Sarawak Entrepreneur Development Grant.

The Ministry has also expanded service offices and agency branches across Sabah to improve accessibility.

The Ministry is collaborating with TikTok to establish a dedicated live studio in partnership with Tekun to enhance market access.

“This will allow entrepreneurs to sell their products live without the need for a physical store. The studio is ready, and I will launch it next week,” Ewon said.

Beyond entrepreneurship, he also oversees federally funded projects in Sabah, chairing a monitoring committee with the State’s Deputy Chief Minister.

“As of last December, over 400 projects in Sabah had yet to start or were delayed. Some are from previous Malaysia Plans. We need monthly intervention to ensure progress.”

Ewon said that addressing Sabah’s development challenges would strengthen the State’s case for increased funding under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

“We must first resolve these outstanding projects. Only then can we make a stronger case for greater allocations,” he said.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating hardcore poverty, working alongside federal and State administrations.

“The goal is to be part of the solution. If we work together, even major challenges can be tackled more effectively.

“Leaders must complement one another’s efforts so that the people can be proud of our service,” he said.

Also present were Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Peto Galim, Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tan Lee Fatt, Upko Honorary President and Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, and community leaders.
