First dates are supposed to be memorable ones for couples who are unsure of whether they’re compatible with each other and serves as a “litmus test” for potential progression.
A woman’s date with a man ended on a sour note after the latter refused to split the costs with her, leading to her blocking him entirely on social media.
Asked to split bill
In a Threads post, the woman said she went out on a date with a man which she described as “the stingiest person she’d ever come across”.
“Today was our first date, and when it was time to pay, I told him we could split the bill 50-50 because I didn’t want to burden him.
“Then he said we couldn’t do that because my meal cost more, so he’d be on the losing end if we split the bill equally. He wanted to to pay separately based on the price of the meal each of us ordered.”
Stunned by the man’s response, the woman said she held her tongue and quietly paid for the entire date before blocking the man entirely when she got home.

In the comment section, a handful of netizens praised the woman for the way she dealt with the man, with one telling other men to go on dates only if they’re financially capable.
Some also called out the man for his stinginess, where one netizen theorised what could have gone through his mind during the date, writing: ‘This stingy man was probably thinking: ‘Why should I waste money for someone I barely know? If she doesn’t like me, wouldn’t I be wasting my money?’
Another said that first dates were a good method to gauge whether a man was serious in progressing the relationship.
‘It’s not like we don’t have money, bro. I just prefer a man who has a sense of responsibility when he takes someone’s daughter out. So if you don’t have money, just go out by yourself. No need to ask a woman out. Simple.’
