LAHAD DATU: The public is warned that making false calls to the Fire and Rescue Department will invite legal action.

Head of Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Sumsoa Rashid said his department received a false call last Sunday regarding a fire incident.

He said, following the call, a team of seven Fire and Rescue personnel, one machine and an EMRS vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

“However, the operation was futile as there was no fire.

Sumsoa said this action by the irresponsible caller would not only affect the Fire Department but others.

“What if there is a real emergency when the machinery goes out to carry out a ‘fake’ operation due to the call,” he said.

He said making false calls is a serious offence under the Fire Service Act 1988 (Act 341).

He urged the public to cooperate and only call the emergency line when there is a genuine emergency.
